CCTV & Video Doorbells
Sound familiar?
These are the reasons people ring me about this.
- You've bought a doorbell and there's no wiring at the door
- The camera keeps dropping off the Wi-Fi
- Notifications arrive too late to be any use
- You want cameras covering the drive, side gate or back garden
- An existing system that's stopped recording
- You want it hardwired rather than forever charging batteries
What the job involves
Priced per camera and per run. Happy to fit kit you've already bought.
- A walk round to work out where a camera genuinely covers something worth covering
- Power and network cable run to each position, hidden where possible
- Cameras and doorbells mounted, aimed and weather-sealed
- Wi-Fi checked and strengthened at each camera position if it's marginal
- App set up on your phone and tested before I leave
Questions
CCTV & doorbells — the usual questions
Can you fit a doorbell I've already bought?
Yes, that's most of them. Ring, Nest, Eufy and the rest are all much of a muchness to fit — the work is getting power and a decent signal to the door, which is the part people underestimate.
Wired or battery?
Wired, if the run is at all possible. Battery cameras are quick to put up and then become a job you do forever, and they miss things while they wake up. If a cable can get there, it's worth doing once properly.
Do I need to pay a monthly subscription?
It depends entirely on the make. Some need one for recorded footage, some record to a card or a box in the house with no ongoing cost. It's worth deciding that before you buy, and I'm happy to talk it through beforehand.
My camera keeps disconnecting. Can you fix it?
Nearly always. It's usually a marginal Wi-Fi signal at the camera rather than a faulty camera — outside walls are the worst place for it. Measuring the signal at the camera position tells us straight away, and an access point or a cable fixes it for good.
